Doug Fankhauser
Guitar/ Chapman Stick/ Vocals
Biography
Over 20 years experience performing for festivals, theme parks, restaurants, private
parties, and on cruise ships.   Doug grew up in the mountains of Virginia where he taught
himself to play guitar at age 6.   Along the way he took lessons from many great teachers,
including world renown classical guitarist, Andrew York.  He graduated from James
Madison University in 1989 and began to pursue a career in music, performing solo and
with various bands in the Northern Virginia area.  He relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC in
1997 where there was an endless supply of "Jimmy Buffett" style gigs.  He bought his
first Chapman Stick in 2004 at which time he became a recluse trying to learn to play the
thing.  He came out of hiding in 2008 and started performing a weekly, year-round gig at
the Salt Water Creek.  You can still find him there every weekend!  Only recently he has
started writing tunes.   Doug says: "I've always been a songwriter.  I just had writer's
block for 40 some years!".  He released his first solo CD, "What I Do Best!" in 2013.  It
includes cover tunes and original songs of many different styles.  He now lives a happy
life in Murrells Inlet with his wife, Shelia, and golden-doodle pup, Lilly.  He maintains an
active teaching schedule and performs whenever possible!
